Where is Pigeon Forge?
Pigeon Forge is a town at the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It is known for tourism and hospitality and is located in Sevier County. People settled in the area in the 1780s, but Pigeon Forge wasn’t incorporated until 1968. The name of the town comes from passenger pigeons, which are extinct due to aggressive hunting, and the old iron forge. The birds would flock together in the trees right outside the forge, and the man who owned the post office technically named the town.
Driving Distance from Nearby Cities
There are several cities near Pigeon Forge you might be coming from, or you might want to check out while you stay with us. Some are nearby, while other cities are a little farther away from Pigeon Forge.
Sevierville
Sevierville, Tennessee, which is where we are located, is right next to Pigeon Forge. Where you are in Sevierville may depend on how long it takes you to get to Pigeon Forge, but the driving distance is about 15 minutes. Sevierville has a ton of great attractions, including Nascar Speedpark.
Gatlinburg
Gatlinburg, Tennessee is another popular mountain town in the area. Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge are right next to each other. Again, it depends on where you are going and the amount of traffic, but it takes about 20 to 25 minutes to drive from Pigeon Forge to Gatlinburg. Some fun things to do in Gatlinburg include the Gatlinburg SkyLift Park and Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies.
Knoxville
Knoxville, Tennessee is the major city closest to Pigeon Forge. It would take about 48 minutes to get from Knoxville to Pigeon Forge. Some fun things you can do in Knoxville include exploring downtown, visiting the Botanical Gardens, or trying some of the delicious food at various restaurants.
Asheville
The next largest city near Pigeon Forge is Asheville, North Carolina. You may want to take a day and drive over to see Biltmore or downtown Asheville for something fun to do. The drive from Pigeon Forge to Asheville is a little over 2 hours.
